Cat found with suspicious injuries on Buchan roadside

The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after a cat was found dead with suspicious injuries near a remote country road in Aberdeenshire.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was called to investigate after a member of the public discovered the black male cat’s body near the A950 between New Pitsligo and Mintlaw on Tuesday afternoon (2 October).

The Scottish SPCA arranged a post mortem examination which has revealed multiple fractures and blunt trauma injuries to the throat and abdomen which may have been sustained as a result of a deliberate attack.

Senior Inspector Scott Elphinstone said, “We are keen to speak to anyone who recognises the description of the cat and knows how it came to receive these fatal injuries.

“The post mortem results suggest that the injuries are consistent with blunt trauma blows to the body, so unfortunately it is possible this cat was beaten to death. The cat was found on the stretch of the A950 that runs past White Cow Wood towards Strichen. Anyone with information about this incident should call our Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999. All information is treated in the strictest confidence and can be given anonymously.”
