Buchanhaven expansion to be discussed
Buchanhaven School
Buchanhaven Primary School is set to receive an expansion worth around £600,000.
The proposed two class extension will provide sufficient capacity for the forecasted roll up to 2016.
Buchan Area Committee approved an estimated cost of around £400,000 for the project at a meeting last April, however the new design has seen the size and scope of the work increase including toilets and extensive playground works.
The Buchanhaven Primary School extension is a proposal to provide a new extension comprising two additional classrooms and associated corridor connection to the existing school together with the redevelopment of a poorly drained grass area into a useable play area.
Members of Aberdeenshire Council’s Policy and Resources Committee will be asked to approve the new budget and award the contract to Bancon Construction Ltd.
The building work is estimated to cost around £470,000 and additional costs come from furniture, planning, property fees and external consultants.
Earlier this month it emerged that schools in Aberdeenshire could be rezoned in a plan to address over-crowding.
A review of the school catchment areas is just one of the measures approved by councillors to tackle school rolls across the region including the issue of too many or too few pupils.
