Ash Wednesday is recalled in churches across the Buchan area

Ash Wednesday which marks the beginning of Lent is February 13.

It will be recalled that the churches in Peterhead have endeavoured to come together at this special time in a spirit of unity.

This year is again featuring a series of Lent Bible Studies under the title “This is our story – Journeys of Faith”.

As in former years, each evening will begin at 6.15pm with a bring and share meal.

People who cannot manage to come at that time can still feel welcome for the Bible Study at 7pm.

The first of the meetings is in Peterhead Congregational Church on Thursday, February 14, when the subject is “Rescued through Water”.

The next date is Tuesday, February 19, in Peterhead Salvation Army Hall – “Guided by God’s Law”.

Peterhead Methodist Church Sisterhood will meet on Wednesday, February 13, at 7.15pm, and will be sharing the evening with Peterhead Deep Sea Mission. All ladies are very welcome.

On Thursday, February 14, the Blythswood Care collecting vehicle is due to visit Peterhead and district when items donated to benefit the charity’s extensive relief work will be received most gratefully.

The locations and collecting times are the former Focus car park, off Catto Drive, from 9.30am to 12.30pm; Crimond at 1.15pm and finishing at Fraserburgh Leisure Centre at 4.30pm.

Deer Parish Church is holding a Quiz Night with tables of four on Friday, February 15, and there is the request that those intending to be there are asked please to bring their own refreshments for an evening of fun.

On Sunday, February 17, morning worship in Old Deer Church is at 10.30am and will be led by the Rev. Sheila Kirk. All are welcome.

The Sunday School meets also that morning.

Then at 4pm on Sunday, February 17, in Fetterangus Church, the Praise Evening theme this week is “I am the Way, the Truth and the Light”. The service will be led by the Rev. Sheila Kirk and teas will be served afterwards.

On Wednesday, February 20, Deer Parish Church Prayer Group will meet in Old Deer Church from 6.30-7.15pm.

The first few sessions of Cruden Parish Church “Messy Church” have been very successful and well supported.

The next session is on Thursday, February 21, at 3.15pm in Cruden Bay Village Hall.

Cruden Parish Church is to be having a five week Lent Study series, starting on February 17, and meeting every Sunday evening at 7pm in the Church hall until March 17, the subject being “Glimpses of God – Hope for today’s world”.

Peterhead St. Andrew’s Parish Church Guild will meet on Wednesday, February 20, at 7.30pm. Guests for the evening are the Salvation Army Songsters and there will also be a Bring and Buy.
