Area committee approves upgrades in Buchan

The Maud underpass

The Maud underpass

At a committee meeting held last week, Aberdeenshire councillors backed a raft of proposals to upgrade facilities in Buchan.

Thistle Marine application

Despite an impassioned speech from former minister Dr David Ross, councillors gave the go ahead for an extension of Peterhead engineering firm Thistle Marine’s depot in Old Deer.

Cllr Jim Ingram said: “Time is crucial. There has been a long history of problems on site. What’s before us is an opportunity to draw a line under the problems.”

Maud Station underpass

Councillors unanimously agreed the refurbishment of the underpass between Station Road and Deer Road East in Maud.

The work is expected to cost £25,000 met by savings from other council schemes.

The area will be closed to the public during works.

School toilet upgrade

Improvements to the boys’ and girls’ toilet facilities at Buchanhaven School were also unanimously agreed by the committee.

The work will be carried out over the summer holiday period to minimise disruption to staff and pupils.
