Apex Church hosts Christmas meal for Filipino community

Apex Church hosted its first Filipino community gathering Christmas meal in the Apex Centre on December 9.

The church has been focussed on serving the Filipino community for the past three years, mainly among the overseas foreign workers aboard the local fishing fleet who meet every Friday night at the Apex Centre from 7pm.

Since the Spring they have extended their ministry to other parts of the local Filipino community by holding monthly community gatherings.

In September the ministry received a visit from three members of the Filipino Embassy in London who had heard of what was happening and specifically wanted to see the work for themselves.

Since then the work has grown and the ministry is now reaching many more within the Filipino community.

At the Christmas meal there were more than 50 internationals and they were treated to a traditional Christmas dinner accompanied by some Filipino dishes. David Strachan told the Buchannie: “We had a great time celebrating Christmas with our Filipino friends, and I’d like to thank all the volunteers who made the meal possible.

“At Apex Church we recognise that many of these Filipinos are far away from home and would love to be with their families at this time of year.

“We have embraced them as part of the Apex Church family and wanted to give them a Filipino Christmas in Peterhead.”

During the event a special appearance was made by Santa and everyone enjoyed traditional Filipino party games. They were also treated to some Christmas carols and a message about the true meaning of Christmas.
