Local woman Helen Johnston organised a fund-raising event to support VSA Carers in Fraserburgh and raised over £1,200 for the service.

The charity event was held at the New Pitsligo Hall with special guest, Paula MaCaskill, a county and western singer, attracting over 80 people to dance the night away.

I am delighted with how much has been raised

Helen, who is also a carer, organised the event as a way of saying thank you to the VSA Carers support Service in Fraserburgh who have provided her with support, encouragement and valuable information over the years.

The event raised £1,240 for VSA Carers Services which will support local carers and those who they care for in Aberdeenshire.

The VSA Carer Services in Aberdeenshire provide a range of opportunities for carers to take part in, including support and information sessions, Carers Forums, monthly support groups, 1-1 sessions and home visits throughout Aberdeenshire. VSA Carer Services also aim to promote greater awareness of the role of carers in the community.

Speaking after the event, Helen said: “I raised the costs for the event through sponsors from local businesses.

“I am delighted with how much has been raised from the ticket sales and the raffle. It was a great success!”

Kaye Taylor, VSA Carers Support and Development Worker said: “On behalf of us all at VSA we want to thank Helen for her hard work and efforts. The money raised is a huge boost and we plan to use it locally to develop our services and to support more local carers.

“A huge extended thank you to all the event sponsors, Gray and Adams LTD Fraserburgh, McDuff Shipyards Banff, Robertson Motors of New Petsligo, Lovie Quarry, Concrete Products of Cowbog and a very generous couple who wish to stay anonyms.

“We are overwhelmed with the kind local support from businesses who either sponsored or donated a raffle prize and to everyone who attended who helped make the event a fantastic fundraising success!”
