The Peterhead lifeboat was called out on Friday afternoon to locate an active distress beacon off the Boddam coast.

The lifeboat was asked to launch by Aberdeen Coastguard, who noticed the beacon had activated allegedly 1.5 miles east of Boddam.

The beacon signal was was weak and activation stopped at around 5.30pm.

The lifeboat detection equipment did not receive any signals from the beacon so stood down at 6.54pm and returned to its berth at Peterhead Habour.

Peterhead lifeboat is always interested to hear from anyone wishing to join the fundraising team and the crew.

If you have some spare time to help raise funds, or have what it takes to be a member of the lifeboat crew then please contact the station on 01779 473331.
