Highland dancers from Lawrence Dance Academy, performed and competed in Disneyland Paris at the International Gathering of Scottish Highland Dance 2015 back in November.

The annual event, organised by Take Us 2 The Magic Ltd and Grampian Festivals, has been running since 2011 and the success and popularity of the event has led to the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing granting the competition Championship status from next year.

The event hosts a Highland dance Championship and the “ChoreoMagic” choreography competition, as well as all the Highland dancers performing in a parade in Disneyland Paris in front of thousands of spectators.

Rhona Lawrence, of the Lawrence Dance Academy, had a team of dancers from her academy competing and performing.

Rhona’s dancers won the award for “Best Musical Interpretation” in the under fourteen year’s group performance section of the ChoreoMagic competition for their routine to ‘Be Our Guest’ from Disney’s ‘Beauty & The Beast’.

Rhona’s pupils Amy Anderson and Erin Will also both won “Best Costume” Awards in their respective categories for their individual choreography routines.

Rhona said: “We had a wonderful weekend. Our dancers had great success in both competitions and we all had such wonderful fun. Disney is an amazing venue and they are fantastic hosts.

“It is now one of the highlight events of our year, all the dancers talk about it all year and why wouldn’t they?”

The event’s success and popularity looks set to continue to grow and Aberdeenshire can count on being represented proudly for many years to come thanks to the Lawrence Dance Academy and other schools from the region.

Rhona added: “I’d like to thank my dancers’ parents for their support and to my team for their choreography and tireless work for the event.”
