A Mintlaw couple who got engaged on a popular Saturday night TV show have become the first couple to tie the knot at St Combs Community Hall.

Don and Julie Allan got engaged on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway in February last year after Don proposed at a recording of the show in Edinburgh.

The happy couple were keen for the Newcastle pair to be part of their wedding also - and made life-sized cardboard cutouts of two the presenters their ushers for the big day.

Julie said: “Don said that Ant and Dec could be ushers and we thought that would be quite fun.”

Don had bought the cardboard copies earlier that year for the couple’s ‘engageiversary’.

If the giant Geordie ushers weren’t enough to make the day stand out, the Allan’s have also become the first couple to have their wedding at St Combs new community hall.

Don said: “We always planned to do it a bit different, we had both worked in hotels previously and didn’t want a hotel wedding.

“We’re really happy that we’re the first wedding at St Combs Community Hall and we hope that we are the first of many.

“The committee have bent over backwards for us and we can’t thank them enough.”

Julie said: “We decided that we wanted something a lot more fun and relaxing than just a normal wedding.

“It was really good, really amazing.”
