Two puppeteers who performed at a special needs support meeting have donated £100 to the group.

The Special Needs Tuesday Club, known as the T Club for short, meets every week at the Buchanhaven Hearts Social Club.

Run by a small team of volunteers, the group reaches out to a whole range of people from Peterhead and the surrounding area.

The social club does not charge the club for use of their facilities which are used for live music performances, social events and pool and darts competitions. Food is also provided.

Patrick Smith, a support worker from the National Autism Society, is a volunteer at the Tuesday Club. He said: “We’ve got a whole rainbow of abilities here at the meetings with people from as far afield as Fraserburgh.

“There are around 60 members of the group in total and on any given week between 40 and 50 come to our events.

“This donation will go towards buying games and puzzles for our members to enjoy, and to bring in other performers.”

As well as puppeteers, Mr Smith and his team have welcomed magicians and local band Raw Stereo.

The Puppet Gang is made up of Tim and Aileen Mottram, two puppeteers who developed a full-time performance business after doing early charity shows.

Mr Mottram said: “We’ve performed up here in Peterhead before and I think someone recommended us to the group.

“It’s been a great fun evening - it’s always very rewarding performing for special needs groups like the Tuesday Club.”

The Puppet Gang have a whole host of characters in their repetoire, including Elvis and the Cookie Monster, many of whom are used in musical performances.

Patrick Smith stressed that the Tuesday Club is always welcoming of new members, and in particular that they are looking for volunteers to help support the group and organise events.

The group meets every Tuesday evening at the Buchanhaven Social Club on Victoria Road, Peterhead.
