Main Street in Hatton will be closed until Friday, March 20 to allow for contractors to safely carry out demolition works following a fire at the town’s West Church two weeks ago.

The building’s bell tower and gable are to be reduced in height with the works due to begin next week.

Aberdeenshire Council apologises for any inconvenience caused during the works.

It is estimated that these works will take several days to complete and once the building has been made safe in line with advice from Building Standards, the road will be reopened.

If the works proceed without complication, the road could reopen before next Friday.

An alternative route is available via Station Road onto the A90 southbound to the junction at Toll of Birness, the A952 north to the junction with C72B and onto Main Street.

Pedestrian access is being maintained in all cases, as is vehicular access to affected properties where possible.

Aberdeenshire Council apologises for any inconvenience caused during the works.
