A fundraising lunch event held last month managed to raise an amazing £13,500 for the Scottish Spina Bifida Association (SSBA).
The Shimmer and Sparkle lunch is one of the highlights of the Peterhead social calendar and the recent event held on Saturday, March 15 proved to be no exception.
The total was raised by the fantastic efforts of the committee and the generosity of the 250 ladies who attended the glittering event at the Waterside Inn.
After a sparkling reception, the ladies listened to young Caitlyn Forman’s rendition of “Lean on Me”, a song she dedicated to her brother Dylan.
The ladies enjoyed their lunch and were then entertained by Fiona Kelly from Aboyne who recently featured on BBC’s The Voice UK.
Fiona wowed the ladies with a rousing selection of songs from the world of opera and West End shows, with her Nessum Dorma encore receiving a standing ovation.
Hosted by Scott Ross, the event was supported by local businesses who made many generous donations of raffle and auction prizes.
The total cash sum was given a boost by Gemma Donaldson who presented a cheque for £536 to the SSBA’s Maralyn Boyle, with the help of glamorous assistants Caitlyn Forman and Nicole Forman.
Gemma managed to raise the money in only four weeks through her slimming challenge.
The Shimmer and Sparkle event is so popular, the lunch planned for September is already sold out.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Scottish Spina Bifida Association’s North-east family services, which will need a minimum of £100,000 in 2014 to support over 90 families in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire affected by spina bifida and hydrocephalus.
The outstanding amount raised in Peterhead will ensure the SSBA can continue to offer a lifetime of support to babies, children and local families affected by these complex disabilities.
