Some would say walking 5 miles would be worthy of a sponsor for charity, but Boddam woman Fiona Thom never likes to choose the simple option, and recently shaved off all her hair for charity, following the loss of her dad last year.

Fiona’s dad, John Nicol, sadly lost his life at the age of 62 last year after having a stroke and since then she has been doing her bit to raise money for the charity, Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland. She’s already took part in a sky dive, where she unfortunately broke her foot, this time she said she wanted to keep both feet on the ground, and opted for a close shave haircut instead.

Fiona told the Buchanie: “This is just another way I can support the charity, and it’s something that’s close to my heart. I wasn’t worried at all about having my hair shaved off, my family say I’m mad, but never mind!”

She grew her hair a bit longer than it would usually be, and asked hairdresser Gemma Duncan at The Oasis to shave it off.

Gemma said: “She’s very brave, I definitely wouldn’t get it done!”

Fiona’s husband Andrew added: “It’s great what Fiona’s doing, she’s always been involved with charities and she’s very brave. I’m happier at her doing this than going back to the sky diving after she broke her foot - but you never know what she’s planning to do next!

“Fiona was very close to her Dad and I know he would be extremely proud of her.”
