A GROUP of Primary 7 girls from Clerkhill Primary successfully battled it out against other schools in a recent STEM challenge.

Cayleigh Bruce, Katie McLean, Sydney Miller and Alyssa Strachan took part in the SCDI Young Engineers and Science Clubs Showcase at BP in Dyce, representing the school’s Science Club, they were joined by teacher Mrs Dianne Pressley.

The four girls were timed to complete 6 challenges which were set by various Oil & Energy Companies and Universities, and successfully won the trophy for the Primary School category.

Mrs Pressley said: “The girls worked together as effective contributors and showed great communication skills, they made a great team and were confident throughout the challenge.”

The pupils have taken their work into the after school club, and have so far been able to wire up a working traffic light using parallel circuits as well as designing Jack in the boxes.

A sponsored walk was also held last week, raising vital funds to buy the equipment needed for this year’s project, pupils are hoping to raise enough money to buy various kits to design, build and launch rockets after learning about Space last year in school.
