Peterhead Central School was closed today (Monday) after a three-metre-wide section of plaster from the ceiling was discovered in the building’s stairwell.
A spokesperson for Aberdeenshire Council said: “No injuries have been reported as no-one was in the building at the time.
“While investigations into the cause of the damage were ongoing, the area was cordoned off leaving one fewer fire escape available for use and as a result, the decision was made to close the school.”
Parents were notified of the closure in the morning and will continue to be updated as further details become available.
It is hoped that the school will reopen as normal tomorrow (Tuesday).
