Around 300 youngsters from across the North-east with aspirations to join the oil and gas industry were inspired at the ‘Energise Your Future’ event at Subsea Expolast week.
Pupils from Peterhead Academy were among the 15 to 17-year-olds from secondary schools across Aberdeen City and Shire at the Energise Your Future experience managed by OPITO, the skills organisation for oil and gas.
At the AECC event, industry employers showed these potential new entrants a wide range of challenging and rewarding career options with longevity, variety and opportunities to travel.
With participation from a diverse spectrum from across the oil and gas supply chain including operators, contractors and service companies, the interactive event aimed to bring the sector to life through fun and informative activities which mirror real-life jobs in oil and gas.
OPITO skills director Morven Spalding said: “We are excited to bring Energise Your Future to Subsea Expo and provide young people with the physical opportunity to learn more about the variety of careers in the sector.
“Choosing which subjects to study can be daunting enough, but with a better grasp on what roles are out there, young people can then tailor their choices towards real jobs in this exciting and diverse industry.
“By speaking to different employers face-to-face about the different job options in oil and gas, and also being hands-on with some of the equipment at the event, pupils are given a unique glimpse into the industry with good pointers towards how this can be achievable.”
