A Peterhead woman has received a special prize sponsored by the Rotary Club for her hard work at College.

Helen McQuillian from Peterhead enrolled at the North East Scotland College’s Fraserburgh Campus as a mature student in 2012 to study NQ Business.

On completing the course, she wasn’t sure if she would cope with the demands of studying at HNC or HND level but, with some encouragement, she coped well with both and, now having completed HND Business, she has been awarded a special prize sponsored by the Rotary Club.

Attending College wasn’t always easy for Helen, but she rose to the challenge of travelling by bus from Peterhead every day while coping with family health issues.

In nominating her for the award, her lecturer said: “Helen contributed a great deal to the work of the class bringing a combination of her life experience and good humour to lessons. Her skills, knowledge and self-confidence have grown immensely as a result of her time at College and she should be congratulated on her high levels of perseverance to produce great results.”

Helen was presented with the Rotary Endeavour Award along with her HND Business at the North East Scotland College Graduation Ceremony on Saturday, October 3.
