Pupils from two local primary schools helped to officially open the new Co-operative food store on Kinmundy Road, Peterhead on Thursday, January 15.

Youngsters from Dales Park and Clerkhill School joined store manager Wendy Youngson to open the store, which has created 16 new jobs.

The schools each received a £100 donation as a thank you for their help.

The new convenience store has a sales area of around 2,000 sq ft, and has been designed to make it easy and enjoyable for shoppers to pick up all the ingredients necessary to produce fantastic meals, with ideas and tips on every aisle.

It offers customers a wide selection of fresh and chilled products, The Co-operative’s premium Truly Irresistible range, delicious ready meals, in-store bakery and an extensive wine range, including champagne. The store will also offer popular services including the National Lottery and Paypoint.

The new store will be a hub for the community, with a “community pioneer”, Andrea Austin, appointed as part of a new programme that sees a member of the store team with an additional remit to foster a strong involvement in community activity, from volunteering opportunities to helping develop solutions to meet local needs.

Wendy said: “We’re excited about welcoming customers into our new store.

“The Co-operative is a community retailer and we are committed to playing a real role in local life.

“I’m delighted to welcome children from Dales Park and Clerkhill Primary Schools to share in our special day, and to play a key role in the opening.”
