Peterhead Central School has reopened today (Tuesday) after it was closed due to falling plaster from the ceiling yesterday.

A three-metre-wide section of plaster was discovered in the building’s stairwell but luckily there were no injuries as no-one was in the building at the time.

While investigations into the cause of the damage were ongoing, the area was cordoned off leaving one fewer fire escape available for use and as a result, the decision was made to close the school.

However this morning a spokesperson for Aberdeenshire Council said that a contractor had been on site carrying out repairs to the ceiling of the main stairwell and the school was reopened as usual.
