Peterhead Academy’s swim to success

PETERHEAD Academy pupils swam to success recently at the NASSA Swimming Championships held in the town.

The Academy went head to head with schools from around Aberdeenshire on February 7, placing a respectable 6th overall. Individual results were as follows: Under 14 Boys Breast Stroke – Shaun Lawrence; Under 15 Boys Back Crawl – Zak Beagrie; Senior Boys Breast Stroke – Peter Hyman; Free Style Under 14 Boys Relay – Ryan Reid, Andrew Hyman, Callum Anderson, Shaun Lawrence; Free Style Senior Boys Relay – Joel Robertson, Scott Brown, Peter Hyman, Jack Fulton; Medley Senior Boys Relay - Joel Robertson, Scott Brown, Peter Hyman, Jack Fulton.

PE teacher Scott Cameron would like to thank each of the 150-170 pupils made the day such a great success.

Academy pupils James Weir and Euan Calder also took part in the Scottish Schools Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow on February 9.

Mr Cameron said: “I took two of our pupils down to this event and one of the boys ended up with a bronze medal in the 400m final, which is a great achievement for the whole of Scotland.”

Euan Calder (Under 16) qualified from his heat, ran a PB in his semi final to qualify for the final, finished third winning a bronze medal in the final.
