ABERDEENSHIRE Council’s head of education, Andrew Griffiths, officially cut the ribbon on Mintlaw Academy’s new science lab last week.

The refurbishment of the science department was carried out over the summer holidays and came in at just under £750,000.

Improvements to the science lab have provided pupils with a bright, new area in which to learn sciences, and the occasion was marked with the official opening to which councillors, senior pupils and staff were invited.

Academy head teacher, Alan Horberry, told the gathering that it had been sometimes difficult working around the refurbishment, but it had been “well worth it” in the end.

Meanwhile, Mr Griffiths welcomed the gathering adding that it was “really important” to the education department that it had facilities in place to help to make the Curriculum work.

“It’s fantastic that we have been able to get this facility upgraded so that pupils can get a better environment and teachers can have the best facilities in which to teach students..”
