Aberdeenshire’s first school learning hub was launched at Peterhead’s Meethill School last week.

The project is part of a wider scheme aimed at improving the life chances of all Aberdeenshire children through the development of nurturing approaches in schools.

It has been supported by the Education, Learning and Leisure Committee, which approved a further nine hubs across Aberdeenshire.

At Meethill, the hub has been developed through an adjustment of existing space into a bright, welcoming area which can be used by the whole school.

The launch is a celebration of this resource and will be marked by a programme of entertainment by the children which includes dancing, music and singing from the school choir.

Attending the event was director of Education, Learning and Leisure Maria Walker, and Education, Learning and Leisure Committee chair, Councillor Isobel Davidson.

Cllr Davidson said: “Today is a day for celebration as it marks the completion of the first stage of a programme to roll out this provision across Aberdeenshire.

“It represents a move towards a ‘nurturing’ approach across all of our schools and I believe will bring great benefits to our young people and their families.”
