A local science and technology group for youngsters in Central Buchan is preparing to send a teddy bear into space.

MASA Club (Minds Applying Stem Activities), based at the Old Mart Community Resource Centre in Maud, aim to send their cuddly friend into space at the beginning of June.

The group is working hard to see if it can host a live downlink so all Mastranouts can watch the action live at home.

Teddy’s launch date is subject to Civil Aviation Authority approval and weather conditions.

Teddy will be launched into space in a balloon and will arrive back to earth via parachute.

MASA has managed to raise enough funds to purchase the balloon and accessories but the group is looking to secure additional cash to enable the purchase of equipment to provide location information and live photo updates from Teddy’s travels.

For the latest updates on Teddy’s space journey visit the MASA Club Facebook page.

Donations for the project can be given online at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/kelly-stephenson.

MASA has recently begun an outreach programme to allow children from other regions of Scotland to be part of the project to put teddy into space.

The P4 class in Miller Academy, Thurso and P7 class at St Gerardines, Lossiemouth have accepted invitations to be part of the project.

Raising the additional money will enable the classes from Thurso and Lossiemouth to follow Teddy live and get photo images.
