PETERHEAD’S CC’s After School Club has received a massive boost after cereal producing giant Kellogg’s awarded them a grant of £350 to help fund their Breakfast Club.
CC’s, based in the town’s Wilson Street, is one of 500 establishments and schools from across the country to receive the grant after research by the company revealed that one in eight breakfast clubs have or will be forced to close their doors because of budget cuts.
Kellogg’s launched the initiative last October to help bridge the funding gap for schools and clubs as research showed the detrimental impact the closure of breakfast clubs is having according to teaching professionals across the country.
Commenting on the donation, a delighted CC’s manager, Andrew Brown, said: “Our Breakfast Club and thers across the country are a lifeline for many families and children in the area helping parents and carers to take up or maintain work and educational opportunities.
“However, with budgets being tightened and cut, these clubs could sadly become an unaffordable luxury in the future.
“Breakfast is undoubtedly the most important meal of the day and aids positive behaviour in education and learning as well as at home.
“The social impact for some of our children is priceless.
“This grant will really help our club go from strength to strength and the money will be spent on new equipment including games and sports equipment for our kids as well as the children’s favourite cereals and breakfast food.”
