A FORMER Peterhead Academy music teacher will stand as an independent candidate for Peterhead North and Rattray ward in next month’s council elections.

Stephen believes that real people, and not just local businessmen, should be installed within Aberdeenshire Council to represent the needs of the whole community.

A music teacher at the school since 1977, and later in London, Stephen believes that education is key to assuring the future of our town.

He said: “Aberdeenshire Council should make education its first priority. We need a well-educated generation of citizens to cope with the problems which they will face in the coming years.”

Stephen also believes that concentrating on the arts enriches the lives of our academy’s pupils.

He added: “There should be a continued investment in music, drama and the arts to enrich and widen the experience of the students.”

Aside from education, Stephen hopes to focus on care for the elderly and disabled through improved co-ordination between health and social services. He also plans to focus on improving Peterhead town centre and increasing public transport to rural areas.
