Members of the Education and Children’s Services committee have reviewed the results of an engagement exercise into the site of a new community campus in Peterhead.
The engagement took place in late 2016, along with detailed work to examine all the possible options available.
Earlier this year Aberdeenshire Council signed off the direction and objectives for the Peterhead Community Campus Project and allowed a number of options to be considered.
The exercise identified that the Kinmundy Road site was the option most favoured in the engagement process.
The new campus project could include the academy provision, sport and community facilities, a 350 capacity primary school and additional support needs provision.
It could also see the redevelopment of the existing Peterhead Academy site as a new location for Peterhead Central School and a rezoning of the Peterhead network.
The report confirmed that further community engagement will take place to establish the details of any and all proposals put forward.
It was also made clear the importance of taking the community on the journey towards a new estate together.
Officers will now continue to progress with mre detailed business cases on both options before a decision is reached.
Director of Education Maria Walker said: “These are early days in our development of a new facility in Peterhead.
“Today the committee noted the views from the work so far and we all look forward to moving to the next step and reviewing all the options at a future meeting.”
The Communities Committee will also be considering this report to have an input into the sport facilities attached to this option.
Further reports to the Education and Children’s Services committee will follow with the range of options.
