A Buchancompany has joined forces with the Active Schools programme to encourage Mintlaw Academy students to get involved in after-school activities.
Students at the academy can now find out what sport activities are available to them in their area thanks to the new Active Schools notice board installed at the school.
Moira Smart, owner of Mintlaw’s Happy Plant Garden Centre, has donated the new equipment to the school and unveiled it at a special ceremony on Tuesday, June 11.
The Active Schools notice board, located in the PE department, will ensure that pupils are kept up-to-date with the sports on offer to them after school time, including indoor bowling, tennis and girls’ fitness and hopefully encourage them to go along and take part.
Active Schools and community officer for the Buchan Secondary Network, Malcolm Grant, said: “Once again I am delighted that Active Schools and a local company are working together along with the school so we can deliver a wide range of activities and sports in the local community.
“We hope that the after schools programme can grow to be as successful as the fantastic curricular and lunchtime activities already delivered by staff at the school.”
Mrs Smart said she was delighted to be involved with the Active Schools programme and hoped it would further enhance Mintlaw Academy’s already outstanding sporting legacy, which includes the early career of female footballer Kim Little.
Academy head of physical education, Murray Carnie, added: “Our pupils can now see all the clubs that are available to them at lunchtimes and after school at a glance.
“We really appreciate the support from the Happy Plant Garden Centre.”
The Active Schools secondary programmes for Peterhead and Mintlaw academies are still accepting applications for this term.
