During her time at Mintlaw Academy, Kerry Taylor (21) found that she was fascinated by finding out how things work and she particularly enjoyed studying physics.

This inspired her to look for an apprenticeship in engineering when she finished her sixth year at the school.

Kerry was offered a position as a control and instrument apprentice with SSE.

As part of her training with the company, she attended North East Scotland College’s Fraserburgh Campus on a day-release basis to study NC Electronic Engineering.

On completing the NC course, SSE then arranged for Kerry to attend the college to study HNC Measurement and Control for a further two years, also on a day-release basis.

She said: “It really enabled me to build on my knowledge of basic and fundamental theories that I could then put into practice during my time at work.”

Kerry was selected to receive a special prize, sponsored by Score Group, to recognise her hard work, dedication and positive attitude during the course.

This was presented to her at the college’s graduation ceremony.
