Mitchell Bartram (21), from Peterhead, was presented with a special award by Score Group at the North East Scotland College Fraserburgh Graduation Ceremony recently.
He also graduated at the ceremony with an HNC in Mechanical Engineering which he studied as part of an apprenticeship at Score Group.
Having attended Peterhead Academy, Mitchell left after his fourth year to start an apprenticeship with Score Group.
He said: “I always knew I would like a career in engineering of some sort. When I was at school, we had visitors from Score Group who said they were looking for some apprentice welders. I didn’t know much about it at the time but they invited the pupils who were interested to go along to a session at Banff and Buchan College (now NESCol) to try it out. I really enjoyed it and decided to apply.”
Mitchell was delighted to find out his application was successful. Score Group then arranged for him to attend North East Scotland College’s Fraserburgh Campus on a day-release basis for three years.
During this time he completed several courses including NC Welding and SVQ Level 2 Performing Engineering Operations. Most recently, he successfully completed HNC Mechanical Engineering.
Om finding out that he was to receive the award, Mitchell said: “It shows that the hard work I have put in over the past two years is being recognised and I am extremely grateful. It also makes me happy that my family were there to see me receive it.”
