A professional darts player will visit the Buchanhaven Hearts Club in April as part of a fundraiser for a trip to the Philippines to help poor kids.

Andy “The Viking” Fordham will put on an exhibition showcase at the club on April 8 after being invited by Peterhead man Sandy Garvock who hopes to travel to the Southeast Asian country next summer to help impoverished children.

Mr Garvock said: “There is children that scavenge on the dump site there.

“We’re going to raise funds and go across so we can do stuff for the kids when we’re there, take them somewhere or buy them something.”

Mr Garvock and around seven other people will travel to Manila in the Philippines for the charitable trip organised by Apex Church.

It was Mr Garvock who contacted darts star Andy Fordham to see if he would be interested in coming to Peterhead and helping to fundraise for the summer 2017 trip.

Mr Garvock said: “I have been a darts fan for over 20 years and decided to use something I have a passion for to raise funds”

Fordham will hold an exhibition match where he will take on 16 people selected from the crowd.

The Viking is a former BDO World Championship and World Masters winner who is currently ranked 54 in the world.

Tickets for the event at which DJ Jasper will also perform can be purchased at either the Buchanhaven Hearts Club or through Mr Garvock.
