Cycleway works set for Peterhead street

BUCHAN councillors will today (Tuesday), be asked to approve proposed cycleway works at Balmoor Terrace in Peterhead.

At their meeting in Peterhead later, councillors will hear that the objective is to increase the number of cycle trips in the area for both recreational and utility purpose, helping to stimulate an interest in Peterhead as a recreational cycling area, improve the health of the local population by increasing levels of physical activity and create an area where cycling is normalised.

Members will hear that the works include the widening of the existing footway on the north and south of Balmoor Terrace, upgrading of the existing pedestrian island crossing, and associated street lighting.

The £70,000.00 estimated out turn cost of the identified works at Balmoor Terrace will be funded from 2011-2012 Capital Works Programme for Safety Initiatives and Cycling/Walking.
