A Fraserburgh police officer had to get his leg amputated after being hit by another vehicle near Mintlaw last October.

Ewan Simpson was hit by Alan Tait’s Volvo on October 27 as he was driving home from work from Fraserburgh Police Station on October 27 last year.

Tait then left the injured officer in a dark field as he fled the scene without calling for help.

Prosecutor Lynsey Rodger told the High Court in Glasgow: “Tait did not brake and did not make any attempt to avoid colliding.”

Tait , 36, pled guilty to a charge of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

Tait also admitted five other charges including culpable and reckless conduct by failing to get help for Ewan at the High Court in Glasgow this week.

Judge Lord Bannatyne deferred sentencing for reports until April 11.
