A young dancer from Stuartfield is celebrating after winning the Pre-Championship at The Shotts Highland Games.

Highland dancer Kelly Yule, 14, competed in the Highland Dancing competition on Saturday, June 7 and was delighted to win.

Dancers can only win the Pre-Championship once and speaking about her success Kelly said: “I was really happy but shocked.”

Mintlaw Academy pupil Kelly attends Lawrence Dance Academy in Peterhead and has been taking classes there since she was just 4-years-old.

Dance coach Jan Doherty said: “Everyone at Lawrence Dance Academy is very proud of Kelly.

“It is a fantastic achievement for her as she has worked very hard for it.”

The Shotts Highland Games, located just east of Glasgow, is a popular annual event that celebrates the best of Scotland.

Over 100 dancers take part in the Highland Dancing competitions, with each competitor performing four traditional dances to the skirl of the pipes which are The Highland Fling, The Sword Dance, The Strathspey Reel and Shean Trubhis.

As well as the Highland Dancing Championships, it hosts a Pipe Band Championship and athletics competitions.
