Hundreds headed to Peterhead town centre on Saturday to enjoy an afternoon of festive fun in preparation for the official switch-on of the Christmas lights.
A packed programme of entertainment had been organised by the Light Up Peterhead Committee, including performances from Theatre Modo’s Inferno team, stiltwalkers, Young@Heart members, Eastern European singers Janis, Zoja, Katarina, Irina and Silvija, Dance 610, and the popular Salvation Army band.
Organisers were blessed mild weather for Saturday’s switch-on and crowds began gathering in Drummers Corner just before 3pm, in time for the arrival of Santa.
The sleigh bells signalled he was in town and he spent some time talking to the crowd before the onstage entertainment began..
The Salvation Army band played either side of the switch-on, which was carried out by Carmen Buchan, a P4 pupil at Buchanhaven School who won the chance to perform the official switch-on after coming out top in a competition to design a Christmas banner for the town.
Light Up Peterhead Committee chair, Cath Agnew, said: “It was a fantastic day and I’d like to thank all the performers and those who came along to join in the fun.
“We learned a few lessons from last year and hopefully people enjoyed our programme this year.”
