A FUNDRAISER, will be arriving in Peterhead tomorrow (Wednesday), as part of his attempt to circumnavigate the UK coastline by foot and bike in an epic 50-day journey.
The 4,175-mile trek is being undertaken by London man Ettienne de Beer in aid of breask cancer charity, The Haven, and is the only known time a challenge of this nature has been attempted.
The impressive fundraising challenge comes following the support Ettienne’s wife, Patricia, received from The Haven during her battle with breast cancer, which she is still undergoing treatment for. Patricia will be driving Ettienne’s support vehicle single handed during the challenge, which they hope will raise more than £100,000 for the cause.
Having started his journey from Brighton Pier on September 1, Ettienne (32), aims to return on October 19, in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, after travelling around the coastline of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Wight.
Ettienne told the Buchanie: “One-and-a-half years into my marriage my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had a mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, Herceptin, and is on five years of hormone treatments. Thankfully she is alive today.
“The Haven was the magic key that helped my wife. Because of this I feel compelled to help more women in distress and emotional pain to regain a sense of self, pride and confidence.”
Ettienne will alternate cycling with running over 50 days around the route which will take him anti-clockwise around the UK. To sponsor Ettienne, see www.justgiving.com/aroundtheukin50days or text FQDL 90 and the amount you want to donate (eg. FQDL 90 £5).
