Global submarine sandwich franchise Subway have announced that they will be opening a new store in Peterhead.

The new fast-food outlet will be situated in Queen Street at the former CJ’s shop.

The Buchanie understands that work is currently underway at the site and it is expected to be open to the public around the end of April or beginning of May.

The announcement has been welcomed as a boost for the Blue Toon in the hope that it will bring more visitors to the town centre.

Haj Atwal, regional development agent for Subway, said: “Expansion in Scotland is going strong and we are looking forward to opening many more stores throughout 2015.

“We are already developing a number of new stores in the Aberdeenshire area and we are keen to find new franchisees from across the region to open new stores.”

Commenting, councillor Alan Gardiner said: “I am delighted, there has been a lot of work behind the scenes to attract brands to Peterhead and hopefully this will be the start of a domino effect.

“We are doing what we can to get big name brands that will compliment the surrounding local businesses and discussions are ongoing with brands across the retail spectrum.”
