A Peterhead street has been named in honour of a local stalwart who was both a shopkeeper and councillor in the Toon.

Newel Lane, near Ugie Road, has been named after the late ‘Chipper’ Elsie Newel and her husband Raymond.

The naming of the streets comes after the Buchanhaven Heritage Society pressed for a street to be named in Chipper Elsie’s honour.

Alec Geddes, Chairperson of the Buchanhaven Heritage Society, said: “We’re delighted that we now have a street named after Elsie and Raymond.”
