The midwifery team at Peterhead Maternity Unit are celebrating as they have just received UNICEF Baby Friendly Accreditation.

This is a prestigious award which demonstrates high levels of care and advice given around infant feeding to pregnant women and new mothers.

Professor Sir Lewis Ritchie, NHS Grampian’s Director of Public Health presented the Unit with the award on Monday, September 16.

The maternity team at Peterhead have demonstrated that they give mums to be the information they need to make an informed choice about how they feed their babies.

The UNICEF UK Baby Friendly assessors were impressed with the high standards of care and support with infant feeding that mothers receive from the Peterhead team.

Chris Chick, Infant Feeding Coordinator for Aberdeenshire CHP said: “The award usually takes three years to achieve and the Peterhead team have achieved this in only 18 months.

“This demonstrates the enthusiasm and commitment of the maternity team.”
