ABERDEENSHIRE shop owners were encouraged to attend a taster session of some business master classes at Peterhead’s Arbuthnot House last week.

The expertise of Mary Portas, best known from the BBC2 programme ‘Mary, Queen of Shops’, has been shared with Skills Smart Retail to develop a unique series of master classes for independent retail stores.

Representatives from 20 businesses in the Buchan area went along to the session which was delivered by Gordon Bell, an accredited Mary Portas trainer.

The seven day-long master classes begin next month, and businesses are being encouraged to take part in the sessions, which are being partly subsidised by Aberdeenshire Council. Each session costs £40+VAT - usually costing £200.

The first of the master classes will take place on Thursday, March 17, entitled “My shop, my future”, and businesses need to be registered for all classes by March 8.

Linda Bolger of Peterhead Projects attended the taster session last week, saying: “This is an excellent opportunity for businesses in Peterhead. The information provided was really good and I would encourage local businesses to take up the offer as the morning session was really good. Local retailers definitely can’t pass this up.”
