North East regional MSP Christian Allard has highlighted the importance of the ports in the North East of Scotland.

His comments come after a map that appeared in a Conservative-Lib Dem Coalition report highlighting all of Britain’s key ports, omitted all Scottish harbours north of Dundee.

Mr Allard said: “It is astonishing that some that some of Scotland’s most vital ports were omitted from the map and proves the Coalition at Westminster does not get Scotland.

“The large number of harbours in the North East of Scotland is incredibly important to the Scottish economy. Peterhead is known the world over as one of the largest and busiest fishing ports in Europe. Thirty years ago when I came from France as a young man to set up an office in Glasgow, even I knew of the fantastic North East ports of Fraserburgh, Aberdeen and Peterhead. My time working in the fishing industry in the North East has reinforced my view of how important the North East’s ports are for the future of this very important sector.

“It is time for the North East of Scotland to cement its place as one of Europe’s most productive regions to ensure future Scottish success.”
