A leading North-east organic recycling firm is offering people the opportunity to learn about the importance of creating a greener future as part of the 2014 Techfest programme at the end of the month.
Keenan Recycling, which transforms food and garden waste into compost for farming and horticultural use, is hosting the Creating a Greener Future event, on Wednesday, September 24, at its recycling plant in New Deer.
TechFest, a festival showcasing science, technology, engineering and maths, which is celebrating its 21st anniversary this year, encourages visitors to get involved in technical activities throughout the North-east by organising shows, presentations and work shops for individuals to attend and learn about different industries.
The specialist recycling firm, which has doubled its commercial food waste customers to more than 1,400 since the launch of the Waste (Scotland) Regulations in January, will be demonstrating how it transforms the 60,000 tonnes of waste it collects into compost.
Keenan Recycling, managing director, Grant Keenan, said: “The Creating a Greener Future event will give attendees an exclusive behind the scenes insight into the business.
“And with so many people becoming more aware of the importance of recycling wastewe want to showcase exactly what the business does.
“It is important to educate both the public and business owners about what happens to their waste when it is being transformed into compost at our facility, and I think this event will do just that.
“TechFest is an excellent project to get involved in and we have been working hard to ensure that the event at Keenan Recycling will offer attendees something a little bit different.”
The Creating a Greener Future event, takes place on Wednesday, September 24, from 7pm.
Tickets cost £3.30 per person.
