Family fun day an asset to our town say locals

The recent family fun day at Peterhead was blessed with glorious sunshine after rain and mist threatened to dampen the spirits early in the morning.

The event proved to be a big hit with locals and visitors alike and saw the Broad Street end of town buzzing with stalls, music, activities, food and fun.

Stalls selling everyting from fabulous hats to fresh fish, stunning wine glasses to creative cards did a fine trade throughout the day.

Peterhead Music and Rock School and Buchan Community Radio kept the entertainment going and the likes of the Creation Station and the council’s Community Learning team kept the children amused.

Buchanie editor Ken Duncan said: “It was great to see so many people wandering down to the attractions and everyone had a smile on their face.

“There was great banter with the stallholders, fun for the kids and, in time, I am sure that this event will bring increased trade to the shops on Broad Street.

“What also impressed was the number of cottage industries based right here in Peterhead selling their wares - we will certainly be featuring them in the weeks to come to help promote their businesses.”

Regular stallholder Connie Chiappino said: “It’s wonderful to have the market down here on Broad Street. There’s so much more space and it’s been really busy with local people coming down to support us.”

We asked some of our Facebook readers what they thought of the event. Here are just some of their views:

Peter Lewis:

“A fantastic day and some of the Peterhead Camera club members were taking photos, when approached by mothers asking what they were doing and telling them to delete the images. We take images to use by the Positive Peterhead, Buchan Development Partnership or for internal competitions and nothing else.”

Wendy Cameron:

“It was a great day , the weather kept good which always makes such a difference, but the parking was good and so were the stalls , music and fun . All the folk who did the arranging were so helpful and interested in making sure you were ok .It was a great asset to our town and would be great on a regular basis .”

Kenny Bruce:

“At last, someone who knows what Peterhead really needs ! The Family Fun Day was a great event, due in no little part to the organisers recognising what would strike a chord with the general public. I sincerely hope it goes on to bigger and better things and becomes a valued feature of the town.”

Mary Short:

“Extremely well organised, the streets of Peterhead alive with shoppers and families out for a day of fun and spending - and the smiling faces showing the memories that had been made - Our Community at its best - with Alex Geddes at the helm and his team and our community beside him - there is no doubt that this event should be held regularly breathing life back into the town and its businesses - well done Alex and your team.”
