A PETERHEAD shop owner has told choccie lovers not to panic - Thorntons chocolate will still be available at her Marischal Street shop!
Confection giants Thorntons announced last week that it will close more than 100 of its 350 stores across the UK after sales plumetted in the first half of the year.
But Thorntons says more than 200 franchises, including Elizabeth Sutherland’s Something Special in Peterhead, will continue to sell the award winning chocolates. Elizabeth and her husband Ian have run Something Special and the neighbouring Hallmark store since 2002.
Elizabeth says it was a welcome change from their previous business venture - selling fishing tackle.
Thorntons, now in its 100th year, is as popular as ever, says Elizabeth, particularly at Easter and Christmas. She said: “Thorntons chocolate is really popular.
“ Of course we sell more at Easter and Christmas but we’re busy most of the year. People are always happy with the selection we have. The closures of Thorntons stores won’t affect us. We will be here selling chocolates for the foreseeable future.”
