Chic business proves not so shabby for Janet

What started out as a hobby has become a lucrative business for a Peterhead couple.

Janet Warrander initially began renovating furniture in her own home.

But when friends and family began asking her to help renovate items in their homes, Janet, and her husband Robert, decided to turn their passion into a business.

Janet told the Buchanie: “My husband and myself were both in full-time jobs at the time and started working on projects in our spare time from our garage at home.

“We found that through social media sites and word of mouth our furniture, which we painted and renovated, started selling very quickly.

“We were going to auctions on a weekly basis and buying furniture to restore and often paint.

“We recycle furniture and materials and bring back to life old furniture that would have been thrown away.”

Since starting the business just over a year ago it has flourished and the couple have since opened a shop in the town that they named The Vintage Loft, which is situated on 33 Maiden Street, Peterhead, AB42 1EE.

“Robert has now left his full-time employment and works there full-time. I am still working part-time but I spend all my spare time at the shop.

“We take a great pride in our work and would love other people to see what we have done and what can be achieved.

“This year we are hoping to branch out into painting classes and interior design, this is something that is in demand at the moment and we get many request from customers.

“We also have customers from near and far who have heard from us from either word of mouth or from social media sites,” she said.

As a special treat for the start of 2015, Janet is offering a £50 voucher to one lucky Buchanie reader which can be spent at The Vintage Loft.
