Consultation has taken place with residents in Peterhead recently over potential ideas for developing Catto Park as a new sports and community hub.
PMR Leisure was commissioned by Peterhead Football Club to undertake research and presented its findings to members of the Buchan Area Committee recently who fully endorsed the project.
Early indications from the Peterhead community show that they see the opportunities for the site.
A working group to represent the community will be created and work alongside the consultants to develop the brief for the site and develop sketch designs.
Local schools, sports clubs and community voluntary organisations have provided feedback and there is a resounding view that the town requires new fit for purpose outdoor and indoor sports facilities to cope with current and future demand.
Alongside the need for new indoor and outdoor sports facilities the results of the consultation also highlight demand for new community based provision to support wider needs such as supporting young people and a central community resource. Members of the Buchan Area Committee were supportive of the findings and agreed to move the project to the next stage and support the recommendation that this is a joint council, Peterhead FC and community driven project.
Chair of Buchan Area Committee Councillor Stuart Pratt said: “Extensive consultation has taken place with residents, community and sports organisations in Peterhead to make sure that the project fits with their needs and they will be included every step of the way. I look forward to seeing this project take shape.”
Vice-chair of Peterhead FC Ian Grant also expressed his delight that the community have embraced the study. He said the work has now resulted in a very exciting project for Catto Park and one which Peterhead FC wish to play its part in, in partnership with the council and the community.
