Buchan Community Radio is preparing to broadcast live on FM for the very first time.

The station will be available on 87.7 FM for listeners to tune in from Saturday 20 to Sunday 28 December.

Speaking to the Buchanie, programme organiser Ronnie Arthur said: “We will finally be available on FM for a trial period as the station received its first Restricted Service Licence (RSL).

“We applied to OFCOM for the licence and we were successful.

“After the week is over, we plan to apply for a licence next year to broadcast on FM for a month and then possibly for Christmas with the hope that we can stay on FM for good.”

The station will be available in Peterhead and will reach out as far as Hatton, Mintlaw, St Fergus and surrounding areas.

Ronnie added: “The first two days will be test broadcasts so there will be people on air but it won’t be our normal programming, we will just be checking that everything is running smoothly for the week ahead.

“Our official FM launch will take place on Monday, December22 at 7am with our Breakfast Show.”

Ronnie hopes that the move will help the station gain more listeners as he explained: “If people haven’t tuned in to listen to us before, they can use this opportunity to request a song and we would like our listeners to give us feedback so we can do more of what they want and less of what they don’t want.

He continued: “This radio station is for the community and we want as much of their input as possible to make it the best local station.”

Buchan Community Radio has lots of exciting features lined up between Christmas and the New Year.

Ronnie explained: “ We have what we are calling our Christmas Festival, the programming will be changed so we will have breakfast, mid-morning, afternoon and drive time shows then specialised evening programmes.

“We will still take requests and dedications as well as community announcements and news bulletins.

“We are currently looking to get the local schools involved for our Christmas shows.”

Buchan Community Radio are looking for businesses to sponsor their various programmes and news bulletins.
