A Cruden Bay author has been invited to give a talk about his book at this year’s Edinburgh Book Festival.

Mike Shepherd will head to the capital to discuss his book [Oil Strike North Sea’, which is an overview and history of the North Sea oil industry.

The book, which was published last year by Luath Press, is written as seen from someone who took part at the centre of operations.

“I was born in Aberdeen and saw the oil industry come to the area as a teenager.” said Mike.

“I make a career planning oil wells for numerous offshore fields including the giant Forties Field.”

Mike said he always saw writing as a hobby to keep himself busy - never realistically thinking that it would amount to anything more than that.

“I now find myself taking part in the biggest book festival in the world along with some famous authors,” he added.

Mike is currently finishing off his latest book, a popular science book about Earth history.

Edinburgh Book Festival runs from August 13 to 29 and tickets go on sale at 8am on Tuesday, June 21.
