Barry nails a winner at Thainstone show

Joiner Barry Paterson nailed the overall championship title at Aberdeen & Northern Marts annual weaned and suckled calves show at Thainstone Centre, Inverurie recently.

Barry, of Cairndaie Croft, Sauchen, Inverurie, took the championship with his bullock champion in the event, which was sponsored by Gray Feed Services of Newmachar.

Show judge Leslie King, of Cairnfauld, Durris, Banchory, selected as overall champion an 11-month-old, 482kg British Blue cross steer.

It was sired by the British Blue AI bull Greenfield Amazon and was out of a homebred Limousin cross cow.

Barry, who works for his father’s business, only has four cows but is a regular winner on the exhibition circuit.

His champion later sold for £1,400 to A.J. Middler & Sons, of Daies, Kennethmont, Insch and Barry was presented with the C.A. Coutts Trophy and £100 by Ian Glennie of the show sponsors.

The heifer championship went to Michael Durno, of Auchorachan, Glenlivet for the second year in a row.

His entry was a 13-month-old 450kg Limousin cross which sold for £1,400 to the Hendry’s, Heads of Auchinderran, Aultmore, Keith.
