The FISHERMAN’S Mission in Peterhead is to get a new Mission Area Officer.
This is not a new role but is the proper title of the Superintendent. The current Superintendent at Peterhead is to retire after nearly 3 years at the Peterhead mission.
Superintendent George Power is 65 in September so will retire from the role. George will retire to Eyemouth where he was the Superintendent previously.
George said: “I have made a lot of friends in the fishing community here and the non- fishing community. Working in fishing is what I enjoy doing. It has been a very good 3 years being here. I wish all the Peterhead fishermen and their folk all the best for the future.”
George says there is still a great need for the mission and the facilities it offers.
The Mission Area Officer in Fraserburgh is also to get a new person in the role after their current superintendent is likewise retiring after more than 20 years at the Fisherman’s mission. Both new members of staff will be based in their own homes, a change to the past were accommodation was provided. The reason for this being a change nation wide to the running of missions.
Mission Chaplain, Andrew Wright said: “We want high quality staff and for them to be as local as possible.”
