Fast food chain KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) have announced they are to open a new restaurant in Peterhead later this year.
The drive-thru premises will be located at the Invernettie Roundabout and work is currently underway to allow construction to begin.
The announcement comes after a building warrant for the site was recently lodged with Aberdeenshire Council.
A KFC spokesperson told the Buchanie: “We are delighted to be opening a new drive-thru restaurant in Peterhead and we can confirm that building is due to commence on the new site in the next few weeks.
“The restaurant has the potential to create 45 career opportunities in the local community, and we are currently welcoming applications for managers and team members which can be submitted through our website.
They added: “We look forward to hearing from anyone who wishes to join our team and we are excited to welcome residents into the store later this year.”
Commenting, Peterhead South and Cruden councillor Stephen Smith welcomed the announcement but expressed his concern that the chain could take business away from local stores as he said: “While locally-owned businesses are the backbone of any community, it’s always good to welcome international brands and the jobs that they bring.
Cllr Smith added: “Diversity in the local economy and a mix of the type of jobs available is important.”
The new restaurant and drive-thru is expected to be completed and open for business in the Summer.
